Nonoba Releases First Free, Open Payment API for Monetizing Flash Games
Seattle, Wash. (PRWEB) July 22, 2008 -- Nonoba (http://www.noboba.com), where casual flash game developers and players come together on the web, today released the first free and open payment solution for flash games. With Nonoba Payment any developer can quickly and easily start charging real money for their quality content.
"This is a totally new opportunity for casual flash game developers, who until now had to rely on either advertising or sponsorships to make a buck on their work," said Nonoba Co-founder, Chris Benjaminsen.
The Nonoba Payment API is super simple to use and kicks in no matter where on the Internet the game resides -- the developer's personal site, Nonoba, Newgrounds (http://www.newgrounds.com), Kongregate (http://www.kongregate.com/), or anywhere else. "You just set up the item you want to sell, put a price on it, and every time someone buys it you get 70 percent of the revenue -- the same split as Apple's iPhone App Store (http://www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/)," said Benjaminsen.
The balance of the revenue split is used by Nonoba to cover payment provider fees and management of the purchased items. There are no additional or hidden fees for hosting, credit card fees, fraud, charge-backs, or marketing expenses.
The Nonoba Payment system gives developers total flexibility in terms what they sell -- entire games, elements of games, or gameplay, for example -- and at any price point from 1¢ to hundreds of dollars.
"We've made it feasible, and perhaps even preferable, for games to charge as little as a few pennies for their content, something no other payment system provides because of the high transaction costs involved with every purchase," said Nonoba Co-founder Oliver Pedersen. "With us, it's always just 70/30, no matter the price."
Four examples of how developers can use the Nonoba Payment API include:
? Trial to Purchase -- Give away some gameplay, but leave the bulk for paying players.
? Items & Upgrades -- Sell small items at small prices.
? Pay as You Go -- Let players buy extra levels as they progress, or sell gameplay by the hour.
? Donations -- Ask players to pay as much as they think is fair.
Payment is then handled inside the flash game with a little dialog box that pops up over the game where and when the developer chooses.
"We've skinned everything, from the in-game dialogs, to the e-mails being sent, to be as generic as possible and so the payer perceives they are buying from the developer, not Nonoba," said Pedersen.
The new Payment API works seamlessly with all of Nonoba's other development tools, including its Multiplayer API, the industry's first free and open multiplayer API for making development of highly-scalable flash games easy and hassle-free.
Created for everyone from flash enthusiasts working in their spare time, to advertising agencies and media houses creating professional games for their clients, Nonoba's Multiplayer API comes with the Nonoba Game Server for testing the games before uploading to the Nonoba platform, free hosting services to take care of the traffic, and a Software Development Kit (SDK) that contains four sample games: Fridge Magnets, Drawing Canvas, Pong and Space Shooter.
